This guy thought since his domains contained popular words like gamble, casino, sex and technology that it automatically made his domains super valuable. What he didn′t consider was the multiple hyphens and terrible combinations of typos and keywords. Don′t be the domainer with a huge list of terrible domains just to brag about how large your portfolio is. Trim your “extra” domains and streamline by selling or trading and use the profit for investing in quality names that are earmarked for immediate revenue or immediate development. Be proud of the overall quality of your portfolio and not just the number of domains it contains.

Know your rep

I amazed on how many people I encounter that in the domain industry that have no idea who their representatives are for such companies as Sedo, Moniker, Go Daddy and other big domain powerhouses. The representatives of such companies exist to assist their members who utilize their services and are hands-down the quickest and easiest way to get something resolved if you feel a mistake has been made. Distinguish yourself as a profitable domainer and limit the amount of hand regs you add to your portfolio. One good way is to wait 24 hours before registering a hand reg domain and then re-evaluating before buying. You may lose a registration every so often but in the long run you will save on unnecessary registration fees and useless domain name ownership.

Stay current with news and sales

To be successful is to be informed. The pulse of the domain industry is constantly evolving and therefore it is beneficial to a domainer to know exactly what is the next potential opportunity or trend being created within our industry. Here are some of the tricks that registrars use when they offer their “cheapest domain names” promotion. Even the big companies do it.

Bait and switch. GoDaddy offers domain names for as low as $2.99 but they’re for the .info domain name. Chances are you want a .com domain name which costs $9.99 per year.

The special discount price only applies to the first year. Yahoo recently sold .com domain names in March for $1.99 but the special price was only for the first year and for new customers. It would switch to $9.95 per year after the first year.

You only get the $1.99 domain name rate if you also buy a non-domain name product (Limit of 1 domain name). A non-domain name product usually means web hosting. Quite frankly, if you’re going to pay for web hosting, find a good registrar that will give you that domain name for absolutely free.

Two sites look awfully familiar. It’s probably because one of the sites is a domain name reseller. Some entrepreneur buys domain names at wholesale cost from the big companies and then resells them to regular people like you or I.

Make sure you do your homework before registering a domain name because you can’t get a refund. As always, buyer beware!

What makes some of these expired domain names so valuable? Well, some have a lot of traffic directed to them already. Some people spent time building a website and a business online, directing taffic to it, exchanging links and developing listings with the search engines. Then they gave up on it or went on to something new. When the original person doesn’t renew the domain name, it becomes an expired domain name and anyone can buy it.

You may be thinking. How can I make money with someone else’s expired domain name? Well, there are several ways.

My favorite way is the easiest and simplest. Right now, when a domain name has expired, the parking company parks the domain. They put ads on it. When someone goes to that domain and clicks on an ad, they make money. Now if YOU own that domain name, and register it with a parking company, which is free, by the way, YOU can get those checks when someone clicks on one of those ads. It is really that simple to start a residual income. Those checks will continue to come in month after month as long as you own that domain name.

Another way you can profit is to resell expired domain names, the same way that you would resell real estate. For example, the highest reported domain sale in 2006 was $7,500,000. Now chances are that you′re not going to stumble onto a million dollar website that no one has noticed, but even if you spend $60 and double your money, that’s not such a bad investment!

Here is another idea. Search for domain names with the same keyword list that you use for your own website. Suppose you have a business selling jewelry, for example. You can purchase expired domain names with the same keywords and then point the visitors from the old websites to your new website. This will give you instant traffic!

While there is no way to determine the actual amount of traffic going to a particular expired domain, you can find out its link popularity in the major search engines.

These are just a few ways that you can make money with expired domain names and if you′re a creative perso
